Exemptions

Generate per-email codes that give invited speakers, sponsors, and others a full waiver or a partial discount at registration checkout.

Last updated: 2026-06-28

Purpose

The Exemptions sub-tab lets you issue codes that reduce or waive a registration fee. Each code is tied to a single email address, works only once, and can grant a full waiver (100%) or a partial discount (1–99%) applied at checkout. Use it for invited speakers, sponsors, award winners, organizers, volunteers, or any complimentary attendee.

When you use it

Use this sub-tab whenever someone should register free or at a reduced rate. Generate a code for each recipient, share it with them, and they apply it themselves on the registration page. The list below shows every code with its status (Active, Used, or Inactive), type, discount, linked email, and who redeemed it.

One code, one email, one use

Each code is locked to the email address you enter and can be redeemed only once. Generate a separate code for each recipient — there's no multi-use code.

Walkthrough

  1. 1

Open the Registrations tab and click the Exemptions sub-tab.

  2. 2

Click Generate Code to open the form. A random 5-character code is created when you submit — there's no separate generate step, so cancelling the form doesn't burn a code.

  3. 3

Enter the recipient's email address (the code only works for this address), pick an Exemption Type (Invited Speaker, Sponsor, Award Winner, Organizer, Volunteer, Complimentary, or Other), and set the Discount — 100% for a full waiver, or 1–99% for a partial discount.

  4. 4

Optionally add a Description (e.g. "Keynote Speaker - Dr. Jane Smith"), then click Create Code. The new code appears in the success message and in the list below.

  5. 5

Find the code in Existing Codes, click the copy icon, and send it to the recipient. They sign in on the registration page, enter the code, and click Validate Code to apply it.

  6. 6

Manage codes from the list: Deactivate an unused code to stop it working (it stays in the list for your records), or Delete to remove it entirely. Redeemed codes hide both actions to preserve the audit trail.

Delete is permanent

Deleting a code can't be undone — it's removed from the list and can no longer be redeemed. If you only want to stop a code working but keep the record, use Deactivate instead.

Tips

Get the most out of this sub-tab
  • A 100% code is a true full waiver — the recipient skips payment entirely. A 1–99% code is a discount applied at Stripe checkout, so the recipient still pays the remainder.
  • Codes use an unambiguous character set (no 0/O or 1/I), so they're easy to read aloud or type.
  • The status badge tells you a code's state at a glance: Active (unused and live), Used (redeemed), or Inactive (deactivated).
  • The Used by line records who redeemed each code, useful for reconciling complimentary attendees.
